There
are many themes of “The Taming of the Shrew,” that are displayed throughout the
play. One theme of the play is that Feminism is undermined. This is shown in
the book because feminism is where women has rights to have power like men, and
in the play, women are considered to be lower than men. In the play, every part
is played by men because women were thought to be inferior to men. This
emphasizes the fact that men feel that they are superior to women just by
playing every part in the play including a women’s part. This theme is also
conveyed through the play inside the play because of Petruchio. Petruchio helps
explore this theme by having himself empower himself over Kate. This reveals
that Petruchio is a man and believes that since Kate is a woman, he will have
all the power over her. This eventually caused him to tame Kate. The theme is
also a theme shown in “The Tiger’s Bride.” The thematic connection is that in
the Tiger’s bride, the daughter is given off like she’s nothing and it shows that
she has no power to be worth something. And in “The Taming of the Shrew,” it
shows that Kate was tamed because of how she had no power because of Petruchio
having all the power. Both stories express the same theme of where Feminism is undermined.
