As Strong as Trees

                                As strong as trees

In the selection four skinny trees from the book house on mango street, the speaker uses an extended metaphor of trees and herself. The speaker uses the theme hidden strength is true power to show that the trees and her may look weak but they have power underneath that many cannot see. This power is spoke of many ways in the story, such as when the speaker talks about the roots hidden underground grapping on to everything trying to never left go and keep to power that it gains. Also when the speaker says “four who reach and do not forget to reach. Four whose only reason is to be and be.” This is talking about how when you reach/branch out you grasp on and hold on to what you reach out for. This metaphor works because it applies to everyone but works best with trees because that is what they do.

  1. That is a good thesis statement because you describe it as well as showing so-what. Nice

  2. I like your thesis because is tis a thesis that does not simply a statement, but acctually takes the meaning of the metaphor and puts it in the thesis to describe the theme. :)
