The Taming of the Shrew has
multiple themes, but there is one that really stands out. This theme is, a lady
with a cold heart and a closed mind opens up when a man comes in to lend her
his warmth. Kate hates everything and everyone besides herself; up until
Petruchio comes in to tame her. She hits, screams, calls people nasty names,
and much more; Petruchio at first treats Kate just like how she treats everyone
else. She soon realizes that she does not like to be treated that way, and her
ice cold heart starts melting. She sees that it does not feel good to be
treated that way and begins to change for the better and becomes a nicer
person. She sees herself through another person’s eyes and she didn’t like what
she saw. The theme of this is similar to one of the themes of Brave. Agatha’s mother, the queen, has
closed mind to the fact that her daughter will marry one of the first sons of
one of the other three clans. Throughout the movie, while she is a bear, she
sees that her daughter is unique and in the end does not make her marry one of
the sons.
