The governing metaphor in the passage is in the quote, " She cried out a sharp, piercing cry, like a bird come back to an empty nest, peering into its bed, and all the babies gone..." (Sophocles 80). This metaphor that Sentry said about Antigone reveals a lot about her. The quote reveals that Antigone is like a bird coming back to its nest to find an empty nest because it shows that Antigone has lost someone close to her. This caused her life to change a lot and that's why she cried out because she is all alone now. This moment is significant to her character development in the play because since knows that she is alone and lost someone that was close to her, she becomes overwhelmed by the fact of losing her brother. And because of this, her actions reflect what happened to her. This moment was also significant to the development of the themes in the book because the moment tries to tell a message of what's happening because that reflects the moment Antigone goes through.
