“He looked up and was surprised to see the trees and the sky above him. He only knew that his previous life was finished, that it was so full of nausea and wretchedness that he had wanted to destroy it” (Hesse, 90) Siddhartha wakes up from what he thinks was a dream. He thinks that he was not who he was before. The river helped Siddhartha be inspired and realized once more that there is much more into life then dressing and having perfect smelling hair. “I am wearing them because I have been a rich man, and I am wearing my hair like men of the world and fashion because I have been one of them.” (Hesse, 94). Now Siddhartha is getting closer to finding his inner self just like in “the Shannon cycle”. “He remembered that at that time he had boasted of three things to Kamala, three noble and invincible arts: fasting, waiting, and thinking.” (Hesse, 95). By having Siddhartha calm himself down with a blank mind and relax, it made Siddhartha a new person once more. He doesn’t know where he is going but he knows he will get somewhere. “This path is stupid, it goes in spirals, perhaps in circles, but whichever way it goes, I will follow it.” (Hesse, 97).
I love the points you made and those were some great quotes from the book!
