Question: The Duke eliminated
(divorced? sent to a convent? had executed or poisoned?) his last duchess
because (he felt) she undervalued him and treated him much as she treated other
men. Which trivial incidents in particular seem to have produced this response
in the Duke?
The
trivial incidents that caused the Duke to eliminate (divorce) his last duchess
were that she liked whatever, she treated all men the same, and she seemed as
if she ranked men. He eliminated his last duchess because she liked whatever.
She like all men so this made him feel un-unique making it only one of the
reason he had left her. Another reason was that she treated all men the same.
Since she treated all men the same and never mixed anything up he left. If
there is never anything new and she treats all men the same she may treat them
all badly and most people do not like being treated poorly or as if you are
nothing important. Yet another reason he left his last duchess is that it
seemed as if she ranked men. If she thinks of men higher ranked than others it
seems as if she picks favorites. He left because he does not want to be
compared to another man. He wants to be her favorite, her number one, and only
choice. So because of all of these reasons combined he decided that she was not
the right one and divorced her. His last duchess treated all men the same,
ranked men, and liked whatever; these were the trivial incidents of why the
Duke had left his last duchess.
