“My Last Duchess: What was intended?” (SCR)
Browning forces us to place our sympathies with the speaker because of how directed it is towards us that we kind of don’t have a choice but to relate to it. There’s the sense of wanting to be identified as important in the poem, as well as just trying to seem that way. I believe that Browning wanted us to look at his poem in his point of view and how he saw the duchess. There is also a sense of jealousy of the speaker from the duchess, and this is another aspect that we, the reader, can relate to. As I am sure that we have all experienced jealousy at some point in time. When we do, everything the other person does leads of as bad, which is where this poem leads to. An example of this is when the speaker says "The depth and passion of its earnest glance, But to myselfthey turned...... (lines 8 - 9).
